Iceland Express has decided to create net fare opportunities for travel agents for the first time since launching the service back in February 2003.
As Iceland’s first low fare airline, they have been carving their own share of the market to rival the flag-carrier, Iceland Air. Now that their operation has maintained a firm hold of its position and established awareness amongst the core user groups, they are now better placed to offer quality pricing solutions to the travel industry.
Birgir Jónsson, Sales & Marketing Director for Iceland Express commented. “We have denied requests for net fares until now, because we wanted to offer the industry not only a competitive price, but a quality product with a proven track record. The routes we offer have become accustomed to low fare experiments; we however are here to stay.”
According to the Iceland Tourism Board, tourism to Iceland was up by 14% in 2004 due largely to Iceland Express. The airline has experienced strong support from Icelanders too, who have increased their travelling by 35% since Iceland Express first took to the air, demonstrating how restricted they were beforehand and confirming the need for the service.
The emergence of Iceland Express has helped open up new opportunity to travellers, by making Iceland more accessible than ever. As the country’s first low fare airline, Iceland Express have attracted those who never considered Iceland as a getaway destination. Jónsson says. “The success of Iceland Express since launch, has proved the need for our service as reflected in the tourism growth. Our ambition was to make Iceland a more accessible and popular destination and thats exactly what we have done. ”
