ICELAND’S FIRST LOW COST CARRIER DOUBLES FLIGHT SERVICE

Iceland’s dramatic increase in popularity since the launch of Iceland Express has prompted the low cost carrier to double the number of daily flights between Reykjavik, Copenhagen and London, less than a year since launch.

The airline’s emergence back in February 2003, made travel to Iceland instantly more cost effective, culminating in a 45% increase in travel between London and Reykjavik of which Iceland Express’s share is 97%.

The new service will operate another B-737-300 from 1st April 2004, serving Reykjavik, London and Copenhagen in the morning and in the afternoon. Sales for summer fares have already started online at IcelandExpress.com.

Iceland Express maintained fill rates up to 93% during the summer months, with one flight to each destination. With two daily services, Iceland Express can appeal to a greater number of travellers coming from connecting flights elsewhere in Europe as well as those travelling to and from the three regular routes. This also gives customers greater flexibility to plan their travels.

Johannes Georgsson, Managing Director of Iceland Express commented. “Market analysis showed a need for a low fare carrier in Iceland and our success is a proof of that. The rapid growth of the low fare sector has increased the possibility for travel to Iceland from the continent at affordable prices. The doubling of our scheduled flights is vital to satisfy the demand that is being created.”

Iceland Express is a no frills airline, with no length-of-stay restrictions, e-tickets are sold over the Internet and it’s very easy to change ticket dates and names. Fares to Iceland start at £118 return from London Stansted and DKK 1.276 from Copenhagen, including taxes.
